Cadets WA Service Award - Jackie Jones

In March of this year, our wonderful Mrs Jackie Jones received a Cadets Service Award to recognise her care and dedication in supporting students to engage in Bush Rangers activities over the last 16 years.

About Cadets WA

The Department of Communities (Communities) administered Cadets WA program has operated in Western Australia since 1996.

Cadets WA enables youth development through participation of school-aged cadets in a range of activities developed to enhance leadership, life skills, community service and inspire a sense of civic responsibility.

In 2022, there were 184 Cadets WA units throughout Western Australia with over 8,800 young people participating and more than 1,050 volunteer instructors.

The Cadets WA program outcomes are:

  • Young people develop their knowledge, confidence and skills to support personal development and assist in their transition to adulthood.
  • The wellbeing of young people is enhanced.
  • Participation in the community by young people is increased as result of their involvement in the program.
  • Young people actively participate in the design of the program.

25th Anniversary of Bush Rangers

  • In March 2023 the Bush Rangers program celebrated its 25th anniversary at the Annual Conference for the leaders and instructors at Bush Ranger and River Ranger units.
  • There are 58 schools participating in the Bush Rangers program supported by 325 volunteers.
    • In 2022, 2,883 cadets engaged in Bush Rangers, where 716 were of Aboriginal descent, 295 had CALD background and 716 were young people with a disability.
  • The Bush Ranger program is led by volunteers at high schools across the State and empowers young Western Australians to care for their environment, get outdoors, learn practical skills and develop a community-focused outlook.
  • The celebration on Penguin Island was attended by about 100 volunteers from Bush Ranger and River Ranger units – from an area encompassed from Broome, to Coolgardie to Esperance!

We proudly congratulate Mrs Jones on her well deserved award and thank you for all that you continue to contribute to our students.
